stonewall never forget

With this being the last day of June and the last day of Pride Month 2012, I thought it most apropos to close out the month in remembrance of the event that over time has meant so much to many and given a voice to those who lacked one. On June 28th, 1969, the world as many knew it, changed forever and for many over the years for the best.

Although the original inn where the Stonewall riots took place on that historic day no longer exists, in 1990, a bar called “Stonewall” opened on Christopher Street. In 2007, it was renovated and its original name “The Stonewall Inn”, was restored. Today, the building is part of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission’s Greenwich Village Historic District, the Inn was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2000.

I came across this couple as I stood in the Pride Parade last week here in New York City. They had just gotten married which made their participation in the parade this year that much sweeter.

Here’s hoping you enjoyed a wonderful Pride Month 2012 and many more in the years to come!
