They came, they ran and they conquered. They endured the agony and relished in the ecstasy. On Sunday, November 7, 2010, approximately 45,000 people ran in the annual INF NYC Marathon in New York City. The marathon course began on Staten Island and ended in Central Park in grand fashion. As the runners neared the end, bands serenaded, cowbells clanged, and roaring thunderous cheers encouraged them to find that last bit of momentum to push through those final yards to the finish line.

The course ran through the five boroughs. Two million spectators came out in force and rooted for the runners in every neighborhood along the path. The world ran in this marathon. Runners from around the globe came to partake in this international event. In the professional divisions, Edna Kiplagat of Kenya won the women’s race while Ethiopian Gebre Gebremariam won the men’s. There were were a number of recognizable faces in the crowd. Edison Pena, one of the Chilean miners as well as Al Roker and Meredith Viera of the Today’s Show completed their first marathons. Jared Fogle, of Subway Sandwich was spotted running. A pair of Blues Brothers coasted by, a Spanish matador in full attire, a rhinoceros and even a banana carrying caracas were sighted.

The runners’ gear ran the gamut. But the one item you found on each and every one of them was a t-shirt. Some wore short sleeves. Some wore long. And some even braved the weather enough to run in a no sleeves at all. Supporters of runners wore tees with messages of encouragement. The runners wore tees with messages representing sponsoring organizations, their countries and favorite charities. They were bold, graphic and colorful—very much like this event itself.
